Flower girl dresses and accessories

Flower girls play an important role in wedding ceremonies. The tradition of flower girls is age old but is still very popular and widely practiced even today in most the American wedding ceremonies. Therefore, choosing the flower girl dresses and accessories becomes an important part of the wedding planning and preparation.

Mostly, flower girl dresses and accessories are selected similar to that of the bridal gown, to ensure that the overall wedding theme is followed. Therefore, they are also popularly known as the “tiny imitation of the bride”. When choosing a flower girl dress, ensure that the fabric of the dress is comfortable and not itchy. Also, see to it that the dress is not too snug for the little girl. The height of the dress must not be too long as it can be a bit difficult for the flower girl to walk down the aisle. So select a comfortable length and stop her from pulling up the dress every time she walks. It is advisable to choose flower girl dress and the accessories, which can be worn for any other occasion after the wedding.

The accessories for a flower girl should be simple but elegant. Choose accessories like the tiara or a headband, which are sure to look good for their age and not too flashy. After going through the different types of the flower girl dresses and accessories, one is sure to get overwhelmed and indulge in spending a fortune, which is not always necessary. You will find that there are various flower girl dresses and accessories that are quite affordable and give the same effect as that of their expensive counterparts.

The tradition of wedding favors

Wedding favors are mementos given out by the newlyweds to their guests as a symbol of gratitude for being present at the wedding ceremony and sharing the most special day with them. In simple words, it is a wonderful way to say “thank you” to all your guests. The gesture of giving away the wedding favors is age old. However, it is unclear as to when this tradition of giving away the wedding favors, first started.

It is believed that, the Aristocrats in Europe first started the idea of bestowing the wedding favors. These favors were known as bonboniere, which consisted of crystal or porcelain made small boxes, containing cubes of sugar, which were costlier in those days. Therefore, the wedding favors were considered as a symbol of wealth and royalty, only practiced at the weddings of the rich.

As the times changed, the sugarcoated almonds replaced the bonboniere as favor, which was packed in elegant fabric, known as the confetti. This was said to represent wealth, health, longetivity, fertility and happiness. It is also considered that sweetness of the sugar and the bitterness of the almond represented the bitter sweet moments of a married life.

Today, wedding favors are quite different and are mostly used as a keepsake. The favors can be personalized with the name of the couple and the wedding date. Now days there are more creative wedding favors coming up and some of the wedding favors can even be made at home.

Whatever be your wedding favor, the one gifted from the heart is sure to be loved and remembered by your guests.

How to choose a tiara

Tiaras can give a dramatic effect to your wedding attire. They are sparkling, glamorous and can do wonders for your overall look. Therefore, they are one of the most popular bridal accessories. When it comes to choosing a tiara, one may get overwhelmed after going through the wide varieties of a tiara available in the market. Here are a few basic guidelines, which you can follow to ensure that you choose the ideal one. It is best to select your wedding gown before you start choosing accessories for it.

The wedding gown plays an important role because a tiara is selected according to the pattern and the details of your gown. This also helps in matching the embellishment and the color of a tiara with that of the gown. A tiara, which is soft gold or silver in color, looks best with a white or diamond white wedding gown.

When choosing a tiara, the shape of your face, should also be considered. This is because; tiaras do contribute in the overall look of your face. For example, a tiara with a peak can make a round shaped face appear longer. Headband style tiaras, are an ideal option for both, long shaped faces and the oval ones.

The hairstyle of the bride on the big day should also be taken into consideration when choosing a tiara. For short hairstyles, tiaras that are headband style and which do not require lots of pins will be appropriate. A heavier or more elaborate tiara will perfectly complement hairstyles with that leave out strands of long hair.

Why is a garter tossed

The tradition of a bride wearing a garter is age old and is still followed in most of the American weddings. This gives a very traditional feel, to the overall ceremony. The garter is a small piece of clothing, which is worn by the bride just above her knees.

In olden days, the guests would throw the stockings of the bride and the groom, back to them. This was because, a piece of bride’s clothing was considered to bring good luck and the male who would first toss the stocking back to the bride or the groom was considered as the next to marry. However, this tradition was later altered a bit as the male guests were often drunk and would create a fuss, making the bride uncomfortable.

Therefore, today the groom himself removes the garter from the bride’s leg and tosses it off towards all the bachelors present at the wedding ceremony. The man who catches this garter is said to be next to wed and is the first to dance with the female guest, who catches the bouquet.

Apart from these traditions, the tossing and the catching of the wedding garter is a lot of fun and is still an interesting part of a wedding ceremony. In addition to this, the garter ceremony is where the bride can successfully incorporate the age-old legacy of including “something old and something blue” in her overall dressing. Lately, many brides wear two garters on their right leg, one as a keepsake and the other for tossing.
