“On your joyful wedding day, you begin a brand new life. Friends and family give their gifts. But the greatest gift you’ll ever have is the love forever and you will share life’s joy and pleasure…”

What a wonderful poem by Joanna Fuchs. This does explain the true meaning of wedding. Wedding means sharing two lives together with love through out their lives. Since wedding itself is such a meaningful custom, there are lots of other wedding traditions involved in a wedding ceremony which are bounded with great thoughts.

One of the many wedding traditions is a bride wearing a veil. This has been practiced from centuries and is still carried on. A veil is a piece of clothing which a bride wears on her head, which covers the back of her head as well as her face. There are different meaning associated with the wearing of the veil.

It is said that, traditionally, veils were worn by the bride for protection from the evil spirit; it was thought to be a “disguise” for the bride. Initially it was also practiced that the brides wear the veil to hide their face from the groom, so that the groom will not deny to get married if he does not like the bride. Therefore the groom only gets to see the bride after the wedding ceremony is complete, when he lifts the veil.

Though there are different reasons behind a bride wearing a veil, one thing cannot be denied that the bridal veil enhances the splendid beauty of the bride.
